Call for internships

The African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA) invites graduate and undergraduate students both on the continent and in the Diaspora to join us for life-changing internship experiences in an African-centred organisation. We are a vibrant community of scholars and activists and hope you will consider joining us.

About the African Studies Association of Africa :

ASAA was established in 2013 at the University of Ghana during a culminating historic event, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana. Its mission is ‘to promote African’s own specific contributions to the advancement of knowledge about the peoples and cultures of Africa and the Diaspora’.

Who can apply : We are looking for people who can work with us to organise our third biennial conference scheduled for October 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. Responsibilities will include supporting the conference planning committee to liaise with partners and manage publicity for the event, among other tasks. We also need someone who is Internet conversant and able to help manage our social media presence.

Why intern with ASAA ? Internships are an important part of the educational experience and provide students with an opportunity to gain new insights by engaging in meaningful work under the mentorship of experienced scholars and professionals. This enables students to connect the knowledge acquired with practical experience. Working with ASAA in particular provides an opportunity to build pan-African consciousness, experiences and networks.

Duration of internship : Flexible, but preferably at least 3-6 months between March and September 2019.
