Fellowship Program

For its Giustra Fellowship Program, Crisis Group is looking for a fellow to support the Africa Program and specifically our work on the Jihadi contagion in Gulf of Guinea countries ; Guinea ; Côte d’Ivoire. The fellowship will be for a duration of 2 years. The fellow will be fully incorporated into the Program as a full-time staff member and perform similar work to full-time research staff. The fellow will be based in Dakar.

This fellowship is envisioned as an early career training program. Thus, the fellow will learn on the job, by carrying out the work of a Crisis Group analyst but with close supervision and collaboration from Program leadership and colleagues. The fellow will work closely with the Project Director to support research work on the Jihadi contagion in Coastal West Africa countries, as well as Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire. He/she will interact consistently with analysts throughout the program. The fellow will have access to internal training and workshops, take part in research trips in the region, and/or travel for the purpose of policy engagement. She/he will also spend time in our advocacy office in Brussels and other advocacy offices as relevant.

Training and analysis will emphasize the following areas :

 Research and research methodology

 Report writing

 Policy engagement and advocacy

 Security (including IT security and liability)

 Gender awareness

 Media

Purpose of the role and responsibilities :

Under the supervision of the Project Director, Rinaldo Depagne, the fellow will engage in and be exposed to the full range of activities that constitute Crisis Group’s operational methodology. The fellow will carry out field-based research on conflict in West Africa, particularly in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Ghana, Togo and Benin in support of Crisis Group’s efforts to analyse the political, social and economic factors contributing to conflict and develop proposed solutions.
